My thoughts on my second trimester as a whole, and what’s left to do before Baby G comes!
Insert panic right about now please. Throughout this whole pregnancy I’ve been relatively calm about what I need to get done before the end of July. I have excel spreadsheets, lists upon lists and a very thorough check list! I’ve felt on top of things and in control.
Well folks, that pretty much just changed as I sat down to write this update. We are just a few days away from the final trimester and the calm is officially over. Um there’s only 12 weeks left?! Say what?!
My first observation about the second trimester is that it totally flew by. The first one was painfully slow, with me literally counting down the days till my next doctor’s appointment. The second one went by so so quickly. In hindsight it seems like we got a lot done (nursery furniture check! Babymoon check!) but there still seems like there’s so much to do.
Here’s a rundown of how things have gone since my last update, which was around week 24!
Symptoms:
Nothing too terrible to complain about- back pain and restlessness at night has continued but I’m pretty used to it by now so I can’t really say anything new about it. My nosebleeds have slowed down considerably which I assume is due to the warmer weather we’ve been getting as of late. I do get leg cramps when I sleep which are super painful and annoying but I guess that’s not too terrible.
Once again, yes, you do feel much better in the second trimester than you do the first. But like I mentioned before, it’s more that you feel like yourself. There has not been any extra dose of energy that has swept me off my feet and has me running around the house cleaning left and right. Boy do I wish that was the case!
Weight Gain:
The weight gain seems to be slowing down a bit which is a welcome relief. I’ve been reading that some women are prone to gaining most of their pregnancy weight during the second trimester and I think that rule applies to me! I didn’t gain anything in my first trimester and then just ballooned up in the second.
While I obviously will still gain weight in the third, it seems to be on a slower track.
I’ll be honest, it’s definitely hard to see your body change so much. Because it’s not just that cute belly getting bigger. In my case it’s my butt, thighs, hips, back and as of late, knees. Yup, knee fat. Just as attractive as it sounds 😉 I know it’s all for a good reason so I don’t fret too much- but there are times where you just don’t feel like yourself!
Home Renovations:
We have our final bathroom plans sorted and this week will be all about sourcing the products we need! I feel good about it because we have a clear plan ahead. But because I’m starting to get a little nervous, I am feeling a touch panicked about this project. There’s some custom pieces are going to get made and that obviously adds a little to the stress. I’ll keep you guys posted on this via stories starting this week! It’s our last major home reno not including our basement and backyard so we’re really excited to finally finish things up! (In case you’re wondering, basement won’t be touched for another 3-4 years as it’s in great shape already, and the backyard is a spring 2019 project!)
Nursery
We won’t be putting the room together until the bathroom renos are done because those two rooms share a wall- meaning there will be dust everywhere! In the meantime all the main pieces have been ordered and the crib and dresser are already assembled and in the house! I’ll be finishing up the shopping this week so I’m not terribly stressed on this front. It will be exciting to put it together soon though.
Maternity Clothes and Products
Still using my Mama Mio products on a daily basis over here! I’m actually on my second jar of the Tummy Rub Butter and am secretly hoping it lasts me the next 12 weeks although I don’t think it will 😉 Although knock on wood I don’t have any stretch marks yet, I’ve begun using their Goodbye Stretch Mark Cream on my knees (have some old stretch marks from before) to see how it goes! And I’m still using the butter in combination with the oil– which I absolutely love! Read more about my experience with these products here!
And hallelujah I’ve finally found cute maternity clothes! I found that it was really easy to dress myself in the winter (long non maternity cardigans paired with tanks/tees that were long enough to cover the bump, and leggings!) and it’s going to be really easy to dress the bump in the spring/summer because of all the cute dresses I’ve found. There was a 2-3 week window of in between weather that made me downright miserable because I had nothing to wear, but that seems to be over now!
I’ve been stocking up on dresses from the Australian brand Legoe Heritage. Legoe has really great basics that don’t look like maternity clothes! They are fairly neutral in color and just about go with anything. This grey dress I’m wearing in these pictures is actually from them and is so comfortable! It’s fitted but has plenty of room for the bump as well as all the extra stuff that comes with the bump 😉 Shop the Grace Dress and other favourites here
I’m also loving Ingrid and Isabel. They have a great lower priced line at Target called Isabel Maternity as well that has the cutest dresses. As for their main line? I’m obsessed with their off shoulder dresses like this midi length one and this maxi length one here. I’m debating which one to wear for my maternity shoot! I’ll be sharing all these dress on Instagram as of this week so make sure to follow along!
Side note- I have no idea how some people can wear their regular clothes all the way towards the end of their pregnancy. Definitely not the case for me!
Overall Feelings of the Second Trimester
I’d say excitement coupled with nerves! I’m so excited to be meeting this little boy so soon! But I’m nervous that I’m not going to get everything down before he comes. Deep down I know it will be alright but we can’t help but feel nervous right?!
Thanks for following along! If you missed any of my previous updates, you can catch our 20 week update and 24 week updates here. I also posted my favourite maternity products in this post, and a little bit about our Nursery and Baby Registry here!
