Our 40 Week Bumpdate as we wrap-up our pregnancy
It seems strange to say it out loud, but we finally made it to the 40th week mark! To be honest, from the onset of this pregnancy that seemed like such an unattainable goal. I mean, it took us so long to get pregnant, why on earth would it go as easy as it seemingly did?
But somehow we’ve made it almost to the end! 40 weeks exactly!
It’s been a long symptom filled journey, but one that I am so glad to have been a part of. And now the real tough part begins: the waiting! I mean, I waited three years to get pregnant, 40 weeks to bring the baby to term and now I still have to wait!!?
Until he makes his little appearance into the world, here is one last update.
Symptoms
At my last check in with you guys, the symptoms all seemed to be disappearing and I was feeling great! Fast forward to about 39 weeks when everything went downhill. I’ve seriously never felt so much discomfort in my life, especially in the evenings. This is not to scare any of you who are still in the earlier parts of their pregnancy- it’s just a little headsup I suppose! Baby is super low getting ready to make his way into the world, which means tons of pressure in your pelvic area. I literally go to the bathroom 4 times every hour, and nothing comes out. It’s just pressure that’s unavoidable!
I’m way more tired that I’ve been the whole pregnancy these last few days too. I can barely walk up the stairs without feeling winded. Even baby’s kicks and movements feel a little more uncomfortable as usual- that’s probably because there’s less amniotic fluid and well, he’s getting pretty big!
Weight Gain
I was doing so well in my third trimester with my weight gain 😉 Until about two weeks ago that is! Somehow I’ve ballooned up and I think it is a mix of water retention and not going on as many walks as before.
I had felt that my face hadn’t really been affected by pregnancy, but this last week it’s definitely gotten a whole lot rounder. Apparently this is normal and it should shrink back down after baby is born!
I have found a few more stretch marks on my stomach too- they are definitely frustrating to look at, but ultimately I know they will fade and I just don’t care. If it means being a mom, I’ll take them. I am still using my lotions and so on in hopes of minimizing more. As I mentioned before, I’m super prone to stretch marks so this wasn’t the hugest shock to me.
Bathroom Renovations
We are about 95 percent done which is just mind blowing. How we managed to pull this off is beyond me!! There are two pieces that are missing- the glass shower that is custom cut and a replacement piece for one of our linen closet cabinets. Both should arrive next week and really don’t take much time to install. We’ve been able to clean and set up the bathroom without them so I’m definitely ok with that delay!
I also know that they aren’t messy additions to deal with later- meaning no dust or smell.
Nursery
Pretty much done as well! I had ordered a few things like our Pottery Barn drapes, some Anthropologie hooks and a few other things to my parent’s house in Boston. My mom will be coming up to help me out this weekend so she will bring the remaining pieces. I also ordered some adorable art prints from Minted, and those should be coming in by Friday. Similar to the bathroom, nothing too stressful to put together!
Baby boy won’t be sleeping in his nursery for a while anyways, so I’ll have a little time to put together the final touches! Can’t wait to share it with you guys!
Overall Feelings
Amazed at the female body for literally creating a baby in 40 weeks. I’m so so excited to meet this little boy and I can finally relax and wait for him to come. Our renos were pretty stressful and I didn’t really get the time to soak it all in- at this point on I’m just ready and excited for him to arrive!
I’m feeling a little apprehensive about some parts of labor and delivery- I mean what first time mom wouldn’t’ be? I’m a little nervous about unseen circumstances popping up and also really hope that breastfeeding goes well for us. Only time will tell!
What’s Next
Waiting! I’ll head back to the doctor Monday (40 weeks and 3 days) to come up with a plan. I know he doesn’t want me to wait it out too long, so we may choose a date for inducing labor at that point. Everyone’s pregnancy and bodies are obviously different, but for me, we decided that 41 weeks would be the max that I would go.
While there definitely won’t be any more bump dates for this gal, I’m ecstatic to share the next part of this journey soon.
Thanks for reading our 40 week bumpdate and following along our journey! For more recent bumpdates, you can check out our 36 week update as well as the 30 week one!

Congrats on making it to 40 weeks! Little boy will be here before you know it. I follow your posts through Instagram but don’t often comment on blogs. I just wanted to say hang in there and I hope everything goes well for you!! I made it to 40 weeks at 6 days before my water broke so I know those last few days are rough. However if it makes you feel better, I completely forget about all the discomfort and only remember the positives of pregnancy. Once baby comes, try to treasure every moment and make sure to take lots of pictures/videos for yourself! My little girl only just turned 4 months old and while I’m excited for all the new stuff she’s learning, I’m already missing my little newborn!
