A rundown of what’s been going on with the little guy, who is 9 months old!
It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve got one of these monthly updates up here. While I do love writing them- at one point I felt like it was just another thing on my to do list. Another mom pressure that I just couldn’t hack! So I decided I’d only come on in and fill you guys in on the little guy when things got back to normal, which thankfully they are.
So Aren is 9 months and change right now. Can you believe it? I certainly can’t. We are creeping towards that one year birthday and I’m in utter disbelief. So much has changed in the last few months.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Feeding:
We try to stick to three meals a day with Aren now. Occasionally I’ll give him a snack when wakes up from his second nap. And we still do a mix of purees and more chunky pieces of food. Sometimes he is all about the purees, sometimes he wants to eat with his hands. I just go with the flow and adapt! He does love string cheese though- he literally freaks out when I open the packaging. And I’m quite disappointed that he’s not a pasta lover quite yet. I think the consistency is too slippery for him at the moment and he is not feeling it. At all!
Nursing:
I’ll be doing a whole post on this soon, but I am still exclusively breastfeeding him! To say I’m surprised would be an understatement. I have definitely had a love hate relationship with breastfeeding but we are still going with it. Currently he nurses probably 5 times a day. I’ve thought about supplementing with formula but we are not quite there yet.
Sleep:
Currently we are on a two nap schedule with a 2.5-3-4 wake time structure. Aren usually naps a good 3-3.5 hours a day over his two naps. He usually does about 11 hours overnight however, full disclosure, he is not ‘sleeping his nights yet’. His sleep pretty much took a turn for the worse after his 4 month regression. We somehow got it back and running with just one wakeup but then I believe he hit the 8 month sleep regression, which has just been killer.
Because we never formally sleep trained, these regressions hit us hard. We ended up trying a modified Ferber method about two weeks ago and had some success but the little guy fell ill on night 3/4 and so we had to stop. We are thinking about trying again come this weekend. Like most parents I am just praying that he starts sleeping through on his own but realistically that might take a bit longer than we want. He does surprise us every now and then with a good night- always keeps us on our toes I guess!
Activities:
I need to get him in more! Currently we just do swim once a week. We’ve been going to Swim 4 Life, which we love! I do want to maybe put him in a mommy and me swim class as well. (Swim 4 Life is like private lessons- it’s just him and the instructor!) We also have been going on quite a few play dates as of late. Now that the weather is warm we do go for walks daily, which he loves. Anything to see the cars up close and personal!
Developmental Milestones:
He’s been standing for a good two months now, so at this point we are actually on our way to walking. He’s done about 5 steps in a row but most times it’s just a quick 3 step walk before he either falls or runs into my arms! He’s been cruising around the couches for a good 6 weeks I’d say, and crawling for quite a few months. He just mastered waving last week but we are still working on clapping! He has no interest in it despite both grandmother’s best efforts!
Stay tuned as we will be chatting more about our breastfeeding a little later on in the week! We will also be reviewing one of our favourite products, the DockATot next week! Want to know anything in particular? Make sure to leave a comment or send me a quick message! We’d love to cover it! And make sure to check out our Nursery Essentials here.
