We haven’t done a Shiraz update in a while so I thought it was time for one! In particular, an update all about food. As a new mom, introducing food is one of the most nervewracking parts of motherhood- hopefully our experience can help some of you new moms out there!
First things first- I thought I was totally prepared for food with Shiraz, him being my second child.
Wrong! He has approached eating food so differently than Aren that I’ve had to rethink everything.
Here’s a little backstory:
With Aren, we started with purees. I initially made everything myself, but then a girlfriend whom I dearly trust, introduced me to La Mère Poule products. Made with organic ingredients, and no added salt, sugar or preservatives, they were just as good as homemade, actually even better.
We quickly switched to those!
Within a month or two, I introduced him to more table food and then he was off. Easy peasy.
Shiraz? Totally different scenario.
He loved the concept of food, but definitely wasn’t a huge fan of table food. With him, we stuck with La Mère Poule purees for over six months. We did a much more gentler Baby Led Weaning approach because that’s what worked for him. I totally went off of his cues and I am 100 percent happy with the way that we did it. He now happily eats a variety of food, and sometimes definitely loves a little puree still!
Here’s what we love most about La Mère Poule:
-It’s a Quebec based company, started by a mom who wanted to create healthy options for her baby.
-The products are deep frozen, which allows for them to be made without preservatives. Vitamins in the food are better stored, which makes it an easy solution for busy moms. Just stock up your freezer every month or two with what you need! No need to run to the store last minute!
-It’s easily accessible. Not only does my local IGA carry it, my local Shoppers/Pharmaprix does as well. No backorders online, or difficulty finding healthy, organic baby food!
-Amazing combos I wouldn’t have thought to make myself 😉 From Chicken Cacciatore to Beef Parmentier, there’s a whole variety of options. Of course there are one ingredient flavours as well.
I also love to use purees in other food for Shiraz and Aren. It’s an excellent way to get in servings of fruits and veggies, especially for my picky toddler!
Adding a few tablespoons to pancake batter, using them in muffins, even adding to pasta sauce! These are all super easy ways to load up on those vitamins for the kids! For Shiraz, we will still add puree to his yogurt for a healthy breakfast. Trust me, it’s a lot more nutritious than a lot of the yogurts geared towards babies and toddlers!
I whole heartedly think feeding your baby is the same as everything else in motherhood- it’s different for everyone and every child. But it’s great to know that for us moms, there are healthy options out there that can save us so much time and energy. It can bring the fun back into the food journey for kids!
Shiraz slowly built his way up to eating more table food like his brother, but was able to fill up on purees in the meantime! It’s a combo that worked perfectly for us and our busy lives.
Any questions about his experience with food? As always, just drop me a message on Instagram or you can leave a comment here!
