An easy + classic summer drink that has been a favourite in our house for years, this Paloma cocktail will become a fast favourite!
Since I can’t really come up with new cocktail recipes for the blog while pregnant, I have been revisiting old favourites of ours! Grapefruit based beverages are one of my favourite, so a Paloma cocktail has always been up there on the list.
If you’re not familiar with Palomas, they’re a grapefruit and tequila based cocktail. They’re pretty popular in Mexico, and they usually have a little sparkle to them by way of an actual grapefruit soda, or soda water. Some people mix in limes, some salt the rims, there’s quite a few ways to put it together. But the main thing ingredient of course is our friend tequila! PS, the recipe calls for 2 ounces of tequila- the acidity in the grapefruit totally cuts it, but if you’re not feeling so adventurers, just tone it down to 1 ounce!
I’m not a huge margarita fan, so this has always been a favourite of mine. And tequila is actually Ara’s preferred drink of choice, so you can bet there’s always a few bottles stored away in the freezer!
I try to keep it fairly traditional. I prefer to add a touch of lime juice as well, just by way of a fresh lime. Carbonation is key for me, so I do the grapefruit juice and sparkling water separately. This way I can always add more sparkling water if I need! And I don’t always add flowers, but for insta sake, they felt like a must 😉 I picked these beauties up at Aura Design, my local florist that I adore!
I hope you guys love this grapefruit concoction as much as I do! Read on for the recipe and cheers!
Side note re flowers in cocktails- You always need to make sure the flowers are pesticide free before adding them to food and drinks. The ones you pick up at the grocery story are not going to be a good option for food! Some flowers are definitely edible, but even if you are just using them for decorative purposes (on cakes, on top of drinks etc) please check with your local florist to see if any of the flowers they carry are appropriate choices! This guide here is a great starting point as well.
