Update your usual salad with a fun twist this weekend! These croissant croutons are the perfect addition to a mixed salad with a fried egg!
Even though we are still in the midst of a lockdown here in Montreal, weekends are most definitely still for brunching.
Since my hands are tied during the week with the every day schedules of both boys, weekends are when we get to have a little fun in the kitchen!
Enter my Croissant Croutons. They’re the perfect thing to do with those croissants that are starting to get just a little stale. For us that is a weekly occurrence. Aren is big on croissants and we can’t go to the store with him without coming home with a container of croissants! It can’t be helped!
They’re super easy to make- tbh you could just use a little oil and bake them in the oven but what really sets these ones apart is the parmesan cheese and seasonings. It gives it just a little more flavour. Make sure to use finely grated parm though – it makes all the difference! Bonus points if you can grate it yourself at home.
The good news is, you really can’t mess these up. They take a while to crisp up nicely so there’s very little risk of them burning in the oven!
I like to make a big batch and then just freeze whatever I don’t use. It’s the perfect way to have croissant croutons at home-all the time! If you only have one croissant, just reduce the oil and seasonings and you should be good to go! We are big on food prep here though so that freezer stash is a must.
Here’s the rundown and bon appetite!
